When the power comes back on

In the community I live in, it’s not an infrequent thing to have the power go out – sometimes due to faulty wiring, sometimes due to storms, other times due to police actions. But the moment the power comes back on, there is a resounding cheer from the entire favela – celebration that the dark is gone and the light has come.

It never fails to bring a smile to my face and hope to my heart.
